Summer in Nigeria
Embarking on a journey to reconnect with roots and family ties, I took my children on this heartwarming transformative trip back home to Nigeria. My Son was 8 years old while my daughter was 6, they had never met other family members or been to their country of Origin. They had always disturbed us to take them but the time for both my husband and I to be free wasn’t forthcoming.
In a bid to ensure their utmost comfort and a seamless blending into the neighborhood, i opted for an apartment for their two-week stay, searched Instagram & found RR Shortlets, did a live video inspection with the kids, they loved it and I made payment, setting the stage for an unforgettable adventure.
Throughout their stay, the family immersed ourselves in the vibrancy of Nigerian culture, forging bonds with relatives and creating cherished memories. Visits to Grandma and Grandpa offered glimpses into the rich familial heritage, while encounters with cousins deepened the sense of belonging.
The exploration extends beyond familial ties, we ventured to iconic landmarks such as Landmark Beach, Lekki Conservation Centre (LCC), The Good Beach, Rufus & Bee, and Hakuna Matata. Each destination unraveled a new facet of Nigeria’s allure, from the serene beauty of its beaches to the exhilarating energy of its entertainment hubs.
Landmark Beach, with its pristine shores and azure waters, provided a tranquil retreat for moments of relaxation and reflection. Meanwhile, LCC offered a thrilling escapade into the heart of nature, with its canopy walkways and lush greenery.
The family’s laughter filled the air at Rufus & Bee, where we engaged in friendly competition and bonding over arcade games and activities. Hakuna Matata, with its lively atmosphere like a Disney park for the kids was their best part of the trip.
As the journey unfolded, the children were not merely spectators but active participants in a cultural odyssey that broadened their horizons and deepened their appreciation for their heritage. Through these experiences, they learned the value of connection, resilience, and the beauty of embracing diversity.

In the end, the trip to Nigeria transcended a mere vacation; it became a transformative voyage of discovery, love, and family unity. This captivating narrative reminds us of the power of travel to foster meaningful connections and enrich our lives in ways we never imagined.
The children were remained Happy about the experience ever after and I am proud to have indulged them in such an unforgettable experience.
Our Flight back to Dallas was for 9pm but the apartment let us spend the extra time after we should have checked out at 12pm. Having heard a lot about Nigeria, the Children even suggested in their funny way that we take the apartment back with us to the US. RR Shortlets made our stay worthwhile as we knew we had comfort regardless of how our day went, we came back to our home away from home.
